It's because when they say "leave us alone" they mean "cater to our every whim at all times without complaint." So trying to stay away from them is forcing them into camps to be exterminated and leaving them alone is ignoring that genocide.

What country you're from, what part of the country you're from, what race you are, whether you are an immigrant or a native citizen to America, your religion, etc. etc. all play a part in how Latin people see themselves individually and how they fit within a Western hegemony, and thus you're not going to have significant lockstep opinions about a lot of political issues like immigration.

This would probably have been a little more the same for Black people within America if we had been allowed to keep our cultural ties because, once again, there are actually thousands of different African cultures who, naturally, don't all always get along, or at the least don't see themselves as the exact same just because of skin color. But in a world where all Africans are basically little more than the pack mules for non-white peoples to suck free/cheap labor and creativity from, all Black people are just Black. There's far less that's actually dividing us from a sociopolitical standpoint. Now, of course, we're not a monolith. I have had my fair share of conversations with Black folks who do actually buy into conservative bullshit about the Black family and crime and accountability (we're very church-going people). Black Americans are also capable of having some negative or hostile opinions to native Africans and vice versa, because of cultural differences.

But at the end of the day, the overwhelming majority of us know we're more fucked in these political system than a white person is, and that's all that matters.

Someone above said that we have no option but to vote religiously for Democrats as part of the calculus. I don't think that's necessarily true, in part because our votes don't actually decide elections, as this current cycle has shown us. We're too small a percentage of the electorate for it to fucking matter.

Malcolm was clear that we should absolutely hold our vote hostage as a collective unit to get white Democrats to truly give a fuck. Because the only time I ever see white liberals is election season. All of the rhetoric in this thread about how great we weathered the Covid period, and how people are too stupid to understand the economy or think critically- that shit has to go out of the window ASAP. You all do yourselves no favors when you are smug in the face of someone struggling to hold on. Like, good for you that your 401ks and fancy little IT jobs are getting you through. Service workers don't give a fuck.

Second is that the Democratic party as a whole needs to actually get united on this issue as a matter of fixing the platform. Like, great that Minnesotans are enjoying a progressive haven. But when the leader of the fucking country is telling big donors "nothing will change," all people are going up hear is that they're going to continue getting gouged and screwed by the billionaire class. They ALL have to get together on things like stimulus checks, paid family leave, jobs programs, getting aggressive with regards to corporate abuse, etc.
Nepenthe wrote:Higher wages must be actively fought for by getting corporations to essentially stop stealing as much labor as they're currently allowed to.

There is no button to press. This shit is going to take actual work.
Nepenthe wrote:
Quote:What is the work? Is it a law? How do laws get passed? By politicians who need to win elections. How do they win elections if voters don't trust the government?

How is the answer more government when that is clearly not what voters want?
You, yourself, could get higher wages right now by just unionizing your workplace. This is not just about laws, although laws absolutely are critical.

And people don't trust the government because the American government has routinely failed to meet people's needs, which is literally by design of the neoliberal paradigm they operate under.

Democrats are beholden to corporate interests just as much as Republicans are, so another part of the fight liberals are going to have to take up if they give a damn is disentangling the party from capitalism at the expense of human well-being. Like, you should not be defending a President cozying up to billionaires and telling you all the police need more funding.
Nepenthe wrote:Republicans dismantling government doesn't explain why Black people have always been afraid of the police and why our jails have been torture chambers for centuries. Republicans dismantling government doesn't explain why trans people understand no one in power gives a fuck about them. Republicans dismantling government doesn't explain why Democrats don't give a shit about the poor and homeless in blue strongholds. Republicans dismantling government doesn't explain why Biden was gung-ho on genocide.

Now, I'm not saying that Republicans dismantling government isn't happening. And I'm not saying that it's not having a negative effect; every day I pray to God the weakening of the FDA by the Trump administration isn't going to hit my GI tract the next time I get some fast food.

I'm saying you laying all the blame on Republicans is wrong. Democrats have equal responsibility for these neoliberal outcomes because they fucking believe in neoliberal politics too. Biden openly and proudly called himself a capitalist. What the fuck else are you expecting out of his administration? Living wages? Paid leave? Corporations to be made to kneel to the law? As people keep saying, "you get what you vote for." You vote for capitalism, then you get capitalism.

Also winning elections are not the ONLY things that matter. They are never the only thing that mattered in a country full of demographics that have not had the right to vote for longer than they've been in this country to begin with! You think my enslaved ancestors just sat the fuck around doing nothing about their conditions because they couldn't vote? No!

You need to understand that people continue to exist outside of the time frame of a damn election. You can organize. Right now. Literally right now you can get off of Era and just go ask a neighbor if they need some help with anything. Congrats; you've become an activist. That wasn't so fucking hard, now was it?

Now, elections are important. Of course they are. Kamala winning would likely be a better outcome than Trump winning. But Kamala winning would not have solved everything. Oppression doesn't take a fucking break for Democratic administrations. If you not doing anything between election days, then you are not actually doing everything you can to alleviate suffering and need to stop complaining. This is doubly so if you are not willing to hold Democrats to account for bad policy and ethics.

Ultimately, the country lurching towards fascism means you ultimately have no choice BUT to find socialist and collective measures to survive. If the truly apocalyptic scenario comes to pass, who the fuck are you going to call? AOC? Lol, good luck with that.

Start establishing contacts and systems with your community NOW. Get in your local town halls NOW. Hell, take some gun safety classes too while you're at it. This despair, this smugness towards the electorate, this running around like a chicken with your head cut off, the mewling about "what can I do?" while simultaneously expressing a steadfast unwillingness to try to organize when someone gives you suggestions is going to get some of y'all killed for no reason.

Shape up.

Nepenthe wrote:Exactly.

Never ask someone to fuck off. Never ask someone to move out of the way. Never ask someone ANYTHING. Construct a movement that will move them out of the way.

Until then, you're just begging.
Nepenthe wrote:After everything this country has been through? America has never actually gone through a meaningful reckoning with its colonial past, meaning despite almost 300 years of existence and fights for a better future, shitty behavior, cultures, and attitudes have been allowed to pass down without pushback. Conservatives still think we should be slaves, and while liberals aren't okay with the slavery (unless you're in jail), they sure are okay with the rewards of slavery and fuck you for asking for reparations. Like hell, some of y'all's family members were screaming at the Little Rock Nine and faced no legal or social repercussions for it.

This country has always been trash to a certain degree. And of course, bigotry, our mainstream media apparatuses, social media brainrot, the economic conditions caused by a pandemic, and more, have played a part in Americans' dissatisfaction with the government right now. But we don't get to the point where fascism is basically here without conditions that were also caused or exacerbated by a feckless liberalism being the only bulwark allowed to exist against it.

Again, liberals need to first and foremost start with themselves, and how they fucked this up, because their political inclinations and willingness to actually commit to economic prosperity are things that are actually in their control.

Or don't. Throw your hands up and say there was nothing to be done, that you tried everything, that decades of this mid-ass leadership was okay, that constantly browbeating and throwing minorities under the bus was fine, that bringing in Liz Cheney and bragging about how you're just gonna govern like Republicans but with a rainbow flag painted on the cages holding the illegal immigrants is great governance, and just keep doing what you're doing.

Because representation within a political system is only good insofar as that system and Party is amenable to the influences and insights of those minorities in order to achieve more liberatory standards of living. If we are going to continue down the trail of neoliberal capitalism, then a Black person or a trans person participating directly in the system is not going to make the failures of this economic paradigm magically sting any less. This is not to say that I want less Black and queer people within positions of power. The point is that minorities need to learn to critically analyze what holding power within the American system must entail. Gone should be the days where we gave Obama a pass for bombing the Middle East just because he was Black.

They're doing that now!

My brother in Christ, LOOK at the material conditions of this country! Go outside! Talk to people in your community!

Biden said that police need to be funded more. The party is installing cop cities in Atlanta and other urban areas. They are not moving on prison abolition, or meaningful reform.

They have been largely unable to enshrine trans rights into law, and one of the most notable Senate races had the Democratic candidate throw trans kids under the bus only to lose!

As for Gaza, it disappeared under a Democratic administration. It is all but gone. It's fucking rubble.

Pay attention to where you live and what is happening! Just observe the world right in front of you!
Nepenthe wrote:I disagree with the belief that we have a place with the Democrats, specifically that we have meaningful place within the party to actually advance Black causes and liberation.

Both Biden and Kamala got their political experience in part by throwing Black people in prison en masse. And you know they weren't moving to try and make those sentences any more humane with even just basic prison reform. On top of that, we've been in this country for like 400 years? First of all, we built this bitch and yet own none of it. That right there is a scam of the highest order and should make any Black person swear off this goddamn country. Second, a lot of metrics haven't moved since, like, the civil rights movement. Our wealth accumulation is still shit. Child mortality and healthcare rates are still shit. Prison sentencing is still shit. Segregation is pretty much still the order of the day in all but law. Our communities are still overpoliced. Where are the gains? Where are the rewards for our loyalty? Nowhere, that's what.

The party fundamentally is not interested in helping our causes because A.) Black/African issues and the maintenance of capitalism are diametrically opposed to one other, so Democrats can't actually act upon meaningful policy meant to alleviate Black suffering because that would make the line go down, and the line must never go down, and B.) They understand that this unexamined cultural belief that we are beholden to them means that they don't actually have to do anything for us because the vote is guaranteed.

They literally ran a genocide in our faces and said "What are you going to do about it?" They do not act as if they are trying to appeal for our participation at the table out of a genuine interest for our well being. They act like hostage holders. "Don't vote for us and see what happens to you."

Now, of course, none of this means that I think Republicans are any better. Them Nazis can burn in hell for all I care. But I think it's beyond time that Black people as a collective start considering Malcolm's advice to use non-participation as a fundamental lever to either get the party to do what we need them to do for our collective benefit, or to start organizing alternative ways of living, preferably in a manner with which to actually start dismantling these colonial systems that both parties uphold. Not like we have much to lose; we vote over 90%+ Democrat and white people can still swoop in and fuck us over anyway. What is abstaining going to do that white malice won't? But regardless, at this point in my life, you want my vote again? Get a fucking committee going about reparations. I'll be in that booth in a heartbeat.

All in all, Democrats can miss me with this bullshit. I'm tired of working for free. Abolition was supposed to fucking solve that.
She literally believes Black people are genetically incapable of operating within capitalism instead of totalitarian poverty. lol

No reflection, just straight up going into racist anger and revenge mode.

You have a total of six bans on your record.
None of which are related to the phrase Latinx.

You have a warning (not a ban!) related to that from way back in 2021, which was signed off on by four different mods, on the back end, all of which have different heritage; one being Asian, one being European, one being American, one being South American.

Infractions also don't trigger an automated DM detailing the infractions. But only thru a notification, which doesn't exactly work as a record.

And you guys bitch about Trump being perceived as charismatic.

For the record, not only is Trump not yet inaugurated, the FDA doesn't regulate any of this.

“neighborhood advocacy survival instinct” sounds like Trump with a thesaurus.

Benji... You should've just posted the commune post. thats was enough.

I still think you are Nep. You have a knack for wanting to post Nep stuff, like you are trying to get a reaction. Also while purposely making the Nep posts crazier.

Admit it!

Nepenthe: we need to dismantle capitalism on a grassroots level. These corporations are thriving on the backs of regular working folks. People are being laid off and struggling to survive while the economic machine continues to grind us down.

Also Nepenthe: Get the fuck outta here with those coupons. I ain’t got time for that.

Maybe a list for the Resetera chronic masturbators to go through. A list of Trump supporting sex workers supposedly.

I love that she posted it as some brave act of resistance.

It’s literally a doc full of screenshots of public x posts with pornstars wearing “we fucking love trump and think he’s the bomb dot com” merchandise.

Not exactly chasing them out of the shadows here, mrs. indica.

Fuck you Jared. That was my idea. I said the best solution to the Izzy/Pally spat was to send in the evangelical Christians and turn the entire region into a theme park.
