I found this interesting, my own reaction at being fine with the dark joke, and how you can feel the opposite on both fronts

for me it's sad how his life ended up and I don't think he should be forever judged at his worst, but a dumb joke using his lyrics is just dealing with tragedy through humor, and honestly something he might've even appreciated

While it is true that the act of pragmatism, in and of itself, is not inherently an approval of fascist or otherwise authoritarian and conservative tendencies, the practical context of such compromises by the left leaning party- historically- have been at the expense of people of color, women, and queer folks. This is inevitable if you find it necessary to work with fascist opposition to get something, and whether or not you do it willingly does nothing for the people who are at the wrong end of the barrel of these compromises. And if your compromises are on the basis of civil rights, under what banner can you reasonably call yourself an ally of the marginalized?

I haven't seen Succession yet, so I can't speak to the show specifically, but I can ABSOLUTELY agree with one part of your post, which is the fact that as I get older, the less patience I have for media about horrible pieces of shit doing horrible piece of shit things over and over again. I'm just so tired of being asked to emotionally invest myself in assholes I wouldn't want anything to do with if I met them in real life.

Video games, movies, TV shows, I need something to actually care about, and if all of the main characters are awful people, it's really hard for me to stick with it.
