I'll need to dig into the decision, but it literally makes no sense. They are basically declaring an entire section of the Constitution as not self-executing. Who the fuck else would disqualify a candidate if not the States? Who else would enforce this clause? Why would you need a separate federal statute to enforce the Cosntitution?

I do want to note, it's not just the right pushing conspiracies. A lot of anti-vaxx stuff got its start on the left. We're all just as vulnerable to it if we aren't careful.

Algorithms pushing extreme right content is probably about 75% of the reason why things have gotten as bad as they have. Most of the batshit insane things you're seeing people saying and believing is because of YouTube and social media algorithms.

This dude runs a forum full of conspiracy theories, they've even stickied one.

In fact he's posting in a thread where members are promoting a conspiracy theory. That the "algorithms" are "pushing extreme right content" and the cause of not just people adopting wrong views but "the reason why things have gotten as bad as they have" whatever that means. Something that can be easily proven as a conspiracy theory if any member were to push back against it, the response would be a bunch of meaningless "citations" that never coalesce into an actual theory that can be tested.

The uncomfortable truth is that A LOT of people LOVE conspiracies. Truth is boring. Forbidden knowledge is spicy.

They are convenient black and white explanations for complex events, usually with a defined "bad guy" to point your finger at. Easily shareable and digestible.

To add to these, there's also:

A) People who never grew out of their teenage rebellion phase and latch on to conspiracy theories to justify their belief that "The Government" is fundamentally illegitimate and therefore can't tell them what to do. The sovereign citizen, tax protestor, and related movements fall under this.

B) People who don't like that basic facts about reality itself run contrary to their worldview. Many people can't accept that their most cherished beliefs could possibly be in error to any degree and therefore assume that it's the experts that are not just wrong, but actively malicious. It's a defense mechanism. Creationists, global warming deniers, and other ideology-driven cranks fall into this category. They invent conspiracy theories to delegitimize scientific, medical, historical, and other experts.

There is significant overlap between all of these groups.
