I mean, you can't avoid offending everyone. This isn't about sterilising comedy. Lots of jokes on lots of subjects without slurs can offend someone.

A white comedian saying the n-word though, for example, I can't understand how anyone would that that is okay in any context. Like, there's no need for it at all. Same with the other words I mentioned above. Removing those words doesn't rob a comedian of any tools, you can articulate your way around them easily and still make whatever joke you wanted to.

I have never seen it successful. ha Just something that happens at open mics especially if you do an honest sign up and go up list. Lots of random people given a microphone.

I just dislike the act of removing a word. I agree though removing those words shouldn't make a joke or a bit not work. It is the same thing when someone tells me they have no clean material.

I host a Sunday afternoon mic at a brewery, lots of families with kids so it is a clean show. When I hear someone say they have no clean material or that they can't write clean material I just think that they only find comedy in being shocking.

Listening to that video made me think about how the frequent use of voice synthesis on youtube/tiktok/whatever videos is affecting future generations' speech patterns and accents.

Yeah, I've never watched a Nerrel video before simply because I hate that ugly Majora's Moon profile picture so much, but I spent the entire time watching this wondering if he was using AI speech or if he just sounds like that.

Sort of refuse to believe anyone talks in that way naturally but I don't get what the point of mimicking that tiktok voice style would even be.

I've heard the AI thing before, but never that I'm a zoomer who spends all day on tiktok, that's hilarious. I'd rather have a flat, neutral voice than do the up and down roller coaster inflection a lot of youtubers do.

Narration is the most arduous and unrewarding part of making videos by far- the recordings for this eleven minute video totaled an hour and fifty minutes (and these are trimmed down to remove gaps / throat clearings / etc):

This is hard to take seriously when Nola's last ban for "Inflammatory commentary" was for criticizing the New York Times for manufacturing consent for American support of Israel's genocide in Palestine. When asked for clarification the justification given was they sounded like an "alt right / conservative".

Within a couple weeks there was a thread about how the NYT chairman was pushing for anti-Biden coverage because he didn't get an interview. Naturally the thread was full of criticism for the NYT but the only person in that thread who got banned was decrying this incident with Nola.

Last month was a challenging time for this thread and especially so for Palestinian users who have been all but forced out through bans and a hostile moderation environment. I felt like we were starting to turn a corner but then the exact same thing that started it all happens again.

I'm extremely disappointed in Era's moderation.
