Speaking as someone who did heavily focus on Japanese history in school, I have always considered Yasuke to either be A) a samurai or B) so close to one that it's honestly not worth drawing the distinction. It's commonly agreed upon that he was A) given a sword by Nobunaga, B) given residence in Nobunaga's palaces, C) given a stipend, and D) he was a bladebearer/personal bodyguard for the daimyo himself. The only thing that complicates things is that Nobunaga didn't live long enough to elevate Yasuke to full-on landowner status before Mitsuhide killed him and let Yasuke go. He was only with Nobunaga for around a year before the Honnoji massacre.



But frankly, he had all of the classical emblems of samurai status, so I see very little reason to hem and haw over the particularities of his exact historical title. It's never been a particular point of contention until racist idiots decided to make it a culture war.

One of the funniest things to me about that document Hachikoma wrote is they obviously didn't do much research here rather than the Discords, because not only would it ruin the conspiracy theory by seeing Nepenthe's house was here for months before but they also might have seen how we were much more favorable to Hachikoma than Nepenthe, Mekanos, Thordinson and the other "victims" named in their document. Just from myself at least a few times I noted they were the only one in PoliERA who seemed to understand the legislative process in the slightest and I've also called attention to their actually believing the rhetoric they say as well as actually being an activist even if fired and ineffective. Plus all the tweets agreeing with us about both the staff and PoliERA!

Or maybe they knew this and just lied in the document for what their intended audience (TransEra) expected to hear.

Ubisoft just shot themselves in the foot.

I don’t know how much the rest of you know about samurai culture (I studied Japanese history extensively), but representation and respect are huge parts of it. You can’t just make a game about Japanese samurai and betray the spirit of their history by introducing a black protagonist. It’s not about race; it’s about historical authenticity and cultural respect.

What this means is the gaming community, especially history buffs and Japanese culture enthusiasts, are not going to support Assassin’s Creed Shadows. By taking such a revisionist approach, Ubisoft has alienated their fanbase. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but this is a betrayal of everything a game about samurai should stand for.

Ubisoft, publicly apologize and rework the protagonist to fit historical norms, or you can prepare for financial seppuku.

Yeah, the Trans Mafia has already done a lot of complaining about being "ignored" simply because people aren't quoting their posts in agreement. Which was always dumb when "Ignore" is a feature of the forum and anyone can use it for any reason.

Funnily enough a like system would give them exactly then affirmation they crave, but it just wouldn't be enough likes and it would prove they exclusively preach to the choir. No fun when it's only your discord buddies liking your posts.

And surely they know by now that people have learnt it's not worth it to engage with them at all, and the lack of likes would prove that. And they're exactly the type of people who would use not liking a post against you.
