Jirard went sicko mode here. Jobst and Mutahar were running on old evidence, assumptions and missing information without the background in financial law to really truly verify any of these claims. Legal action coming their way is... very understandable here.

This isn't to say Jirard is entirely exonerated in my view. 10 years of donations being withheld to avoid admin fees and for the donations to not be restricted still means it was 10 years the money wasn't in the hands of charities and funding research. The money is donated now, but that's so much lost time, and Jirard owns up to this not being good enough and for implying donations were happening on a smaller timescale.

The donations being held on to for so long is inexcusable but this is about as thorough of a response as you can get.

I don't know how well the legal case for libel/false fraud accusations can go here, Jobst/Mutahar were right in that the funds had not been donated to charity, but they are definitely looking pretty wrong about the further accusations here - and that's done incredible reputational damage to a lot of people. This thread is proof positive of that, 50 pages of it.

He deleted it, but the post, honestly, was not that bad outside of “sicko mode”. Is this the first time he realizes how fucking judgmental RE is? 

If the dude is legit depressed, hope he searches for another community because RE is a time bomb for everyone not in the dominant groups. (Also your Spotify video game music thread is awesome, be proud of that).

Their big brained idea to fight capitalism is to cap individual income at $1 million USD.

Personally I think income should be capped up to a certain point. Let's say $1million a year. Make it impossible for any one person to make more than $1million per year. Or tax them like 85% of their income over $1million, something like that.

Making $1million a year is still an insane number to shoot for as income, and it cuts down on the unnecessary wealth that some people are paid/pay themselves. It also would allow someone to retire much earlier than most, I think.

But no one person should be making this kind of money while the vast, VAST majority of humanity struggles to get by.

I mean, as a simple thought experiment I don't need think anyone on this planet needs to make more than a million a year and that million should be heavily taxed.

Billionaires are always bad for non-billionaires because they can warp the world with their money and still have a fuck ton to spare.

There are no good billionaires since becoming a billionaire always involves exploiting others.

Sorry, but everyone needs to be poorer so the rich and powerful can have an even greater share of the lesser wealth. It's about reducing the power of billionaires to make everyone's lives better by empowering monopolies and cops to reduce challenges to their power.

I've brought this up in NBA conversations, I have no idea why LeBron James is still taking the max salary and has been ever since he moved back to Cleveland. It's a pittance in comparison to his assets and it reduces his teams ability to surround him with talent. He should take the fucking minimum and win more because he makes infinitely more off his outside endorsements and investments all of which are boosted significantly when he wins. I get it for like Kevin Durant because he's actually kinda shitty at business while thinking he understands it, but with LeBron I seriously don't understand since he took less in Miami. And everyone in sports media would fall all over themselves to praise him for being unselfish.

Truly ending social problems and, like, actually making a fair, equitable, and sustainable world, inevitably means moving towards systems, laws, and other checks where this kind of wealth hoarding becomes impossible. Remember, all of this is inherently predicated on centuries of genocide, slavery, and forced underdevelopment of the Global South. Without the trillions in wealth the US and Europe stole, you cannot foster these regions' rapid development, meaning there's no wealth built in to springboard lucky jacks like Gabe into a position where he can take the majority of the credit and subsequent wealth from building Valve in the first place. Giving it back through initiatives that make a better world for everyone would essentially wipe out the US and Europe's golden parachutes.

But even beyond the existential horror of reparations, you know, of just doing the right fucking thing, there's the even more simple fact that capitalism is ultimately a hierarchical system wherein the top of the pyramid has access to the land and capital necessary for making stuff- food, clothing, housing, transporation, etc.. Your ability to survive, and thrive, is dependent upon your relationship with that capital. You're either a have or a have not, and if you're a have not, you're indebted to the capitalist class to give you some sort of means of survival. You either have power, or you don't. Eliminating this hierarchy, or even threatening to flatten it some, means the Gabe Newells of the world would have to contend with these new paradigms on the same footing as you and I. It means giving up power. And he'd probably rather commit suicide than do anything silly like that!
