As a result, the GotY volunteer team is happy to present their new category: Games for Impact.

You might ask yourself, "What does Games for Impact mean?" and that would be a good question. Essentially, Games for Impact is a way for people to honor games that highlight societal problems, marginalized communities, or just try and send a positive message out into the world through its gameplay mechanics or story. What we want you to think of when voting on this particular category is this:
A video game that uses design and storytelling to connect emotionally, explore social issues, and/or gives a platform to marginalized communities, making a lasting impact on players' perspectives and motivating action on relevant issues.

Be careful though

Unfortunately, the changes we wanted to make to this year's vote didn't happen, but we're going to start working on GOTY 2024 hopefully in the coming months, as there are some things we think we can add to make the awards more efficient, or to have more interesting categories.

A journalist's job is to report the news and to filter that report so that only the relevant details are presented i.e. remove any personal details.

That said, I was first introduced to this video through these forums as an example of something being indefensibly sexist. After reading this thread yesterday I had to poke around and fin something to hold onto in my brain cause "it's just so cringe" like... literally doesn't fly.
