Recently I saw people saying to boycott Bumble because it’s an Israeli company and Mossad will steal your data. I looked into it and the founder is an American Jewish lady. Anyway, also learned she had a real life meet cute encounter with her now husband at a ski resort. Gone are the days of people like Sy Sperling using their own products. The owner of Bumble should be a 30-something single lady who loves The Office and wine bars. Sad state of affairs.

Shafik was born in Alexandria, Egypt, to Muslim parents who were both educators.[7] Her father was a scientist and wealthy landowner.[8][9] As a child, she went to Schutz American School. She moved to do macroeconomic work on Europe and the Middle East where she published a number of books and articles on the region's economic future, the economics of peace, labour markets, regional integration, and gender issues.[14] At age 36, Shafik became the World Bank's youngest-ever Vice President.[15][16]

Shafik has held academic appointments, both as adjunct professor in the Economics Department at Georgetown University from 1989 to 1994, and as Visiting associate professor at the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania in Spring 1996.[17]

She previously served as president and vice chancellor of the London School of Economics from 2017 to 2023.

From 2014 to 2017, Shafik served as deputy governor of the Bank of England and also previously as permanent secretary of the United Kingdom Department for International Development from 2008 to 2011.[3] She has also served as a vice president at the World Bank[4] and as deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund.[5] She was created a life peeress by Elizabeth II in 2020.

As someone who is trying to get their animated show picked up (with a good chunk of characters who are non-white & some that are LGBTQ+), I'm seriously considering going the web comic route instead, rather than to deal with a legion of executives & producers who are "well seasoned" and "experienced" to tell me what I'm trying to create will turn a target audience away. I got "concerns" during one meeting from one executive with my main protagonist is a girl, and would rather them be a boy, or how they didn't like that one of her parents are bisexual.

So reading this news is making me reconsider.

Article has links to previous years findings. The 2022 study was considered a record for gays on TV. In 2023 gays of color were up. So, do they they expect exponential growth? Yet the article explicitly states part of the drop were from shows ending or cancellations and the lesser amount of broadcast scripted shows. Even if you only read the first two paragraphs, it talks about the actor and writers strikes and mass layoffs. Still, what a fun job that must be. Sit around and watch TV. Do a little tally every time a character comes off zesty.

Considering the numbers are dropping, did they ever actually celebrate when they were rising? Or was it then also just always not good enough? Also a pretty crucial detail of the article seems to be that there's generally less shows than in the previous years meaning there's less characters overall.

On broadcast TV, GLAAD counted 39 LGBTQ regulars featured on 64 primetime series, a drop of 31 characters, or 44 percent, from the previous year's study. The dip, however, can partially be attributed to the decreasing number of primetime scripted series overall on broadcast television.

So only 60% of the primetime TV shows represent gays and the mentally ill, even though they're supposed to make up 10% of the population? Sounds like we've got a way to go. Down.
