I had to look this up and I have a hard time believing this bothers anyone. Brie Larson shitting on "40 year old white men" critics was probably hard not to take personally for them and they never said anything more spicy than calling it "dismissive" and "condescending" in return, as well as pointing out that movies with diverse subject matter (like Tangerine and Moonlight) were widely embraced by said white male critics. Even then, they said "what she was trying to say was a positive thing" (in support of the idea of more diversity among published film critics) while doing so. Not only all that but it was five years ago. I think it's pretty intense to cling to a mild take like this as if they committed some kind of grave transgression that we must never forget. It must have pushed your buttons, and I'm not trying to dismiss your concerns here, but I'm just not seeing it; I could definitely be missing something (sorry if so).

In fact, reading how it was framed (with such bitterness and beleaguered sarcasm) in the OP in the 2019 ResetEra thread about it (and seeing many thread participants taking the bait) made me glad that we seem to be a little more level headed when discussing this stuff nowadays. I'm happy to be on this version of the forum. Good comments abound in this thread about how they aren't cutting edge progressive voices -- but neither is their audience, and in context (i.e. noting that they are midwestern middle aged white guys making content for other middle aged white guys) their existence is pretty mild and makes perfect sense.

People got admonished for getting mad at another poster for rightfully calling out that most of the sympathy was placed with her despite the physical assault that occurred didn't happen to her, but to a Black person. That's not something to actually get mad at, and it damn sure isn't something to insinuate is stirring shit for merely bringing it up. It's something to think about and examine, especially again if you consider yourself in any way aligned with Black people's liberation (which, admittedly, most of this forum is not, so my bad for being surprised at the reactions.)

Whether or not the forum intended to downplay the social factors involved is irrelevant. Intent means very little in a social structure where unequal outcomes and considerations are built in by design and thus the racism runs itself.

Oh boy guys! I just got an ADHD diagnosis!!

Been a long time coming, my wife insisted i go because she was going crazy with my lack of understanding basic chores (i just... forgot to do them, or something else always seemed to happen that i had to do), quick temper, bad money management, and a lot of other habits and things.

I've also noticed that i had huge difficulties keeping my focus on work, and might start reading something i found interesting or go for a walk right in the middle of writing a email.


So i went a shrink and after a lot of discussion, looking into my past and talking to my friends and family, he diagnosed me with severe ahdh.


And while it was a huge relief to learn that im not lazy, stupid and mean (that is what i've been saying to myself for over 20 years) i"m bit confused about whats next.


Is It medicine? He suggested that but im not sure if i should? I've read horror stories about the consequences and side effects of these drugs...

Online suppor groups? While i like the idea, im not sure if i have the patience to see it through... same with self help books...

It really is amazing. The guy pushing the black man away is enough to get labeled assault but the the slap by Will Smith is called a "light slap" and not violent. No consistency outside of white people being to blame for both scenarios
