We need a new principal antagonist because Nep's lunatic ranting about capitalism has just played out. The only way to redeem her would be for there to be a general uprising of the downtrodden proletariat against their more equal moderators who hate doing the job but just can't seem to let it go.

Melody is played out as a character. He needs to get a job or something left-field...that would subvert our expectations somewhat. This slow burn towards being exposed as a paedo is inevitable and boring.

Even messoboughtawife is a nothing character this season. He needs to go through a very public divorce and take a "women are bitches" heel turn to keep me tuning in to his bullshit.

When you are at the top of the global hegemony you can just "investigate yourself" and then tell people you will circle back about the war crime allegations. Decades later the crimes will be exposed and there will be a collective shrug. Any new accusations of current war crimes are considered baseless and outrageous.

Rinse and repeat until blowback, then lie about that too.

The US military is just an extension of the gangster state that is the US. A front for drug, human and arms trafficking.

this is why it's hard to take the China/Russia threat too seriously, the US is and has been just another flavor of shit. Yes, Ukraine, but then the US immediately has its garbage with Israel. It's just...every superpower or wannabe is utter garbage.

This is why I don't fight when people say America/the USA is the great Satan.

Typically whatever country is most rich and powerful and influential does the most harm just because it has the POWER to do so. It seems to be human/societal nature at this point. It's been happening for centuries, millenia. Many other powerful countries have been on that list when they were on top. The USA is still "on top" so even though we do a lot of good we also are still the worst by total amount of atrocities, etc.

This does not excuse the USA. At all. USA people gotta keep fighting to improve the country. It can and WILL do better. Hopefully someday soon...

It's truly depressing that almost certainly nothing will come of this. Both major parties have zero interest in unwinding any aspect of American military dominion, let alone holding anyone accountable for anything. American doctrine has been "We have the big stick. What're you gonna do about it?" for decades now. Lots of people with cushy jobs in Washington should be in the Hague.

Its no wonder that the people who lead the US are so fond with the people that lead Israel.

America has never lost its beliefs in colonization, it's just expanded its scope.

This is why I don't "support the troops" or "thank them for their service" or any such nonsense. Until there are a dozen stories of "A group of soldiers stopped one soldier from committing a war crime" for every one story of a soldier committing war crimes, they're all complicit.

The US is an evil empire that has brainwashed it's population to believe that it's the global arbiter of morality.

Just like how a billionaire can only exist if they exploit everything in their sphere and are inherently immoral, so too is any empire. It's all at someone else's expense. The US is no different.

The problem is that America's Internal politics affect the world globally should they decide to interfere for better or for worse. Usually inteference is there due to 'national interests'.

Of course, I'm just saying Americans don't really care about our military affecting war crimes. If I showed this article to my neighbors, some of them might go "oh, that's awful" and then go back to their lives, continuing to support politicians and causes that enable the US military to continue to treat the global south as their sandbox to stomp around in.

There is no serious anti-war movement in the US, it's a fringe of a fringe. So when an American says "not all of us are like this," it rings very hollow to me. It's a refusal to acknowledge that our political and cultural machines enable these war crimes.

And both USA and Israel want all the world to believe they are the good guys and the saviors of humanity from the bad guys... Really, fuck both!!

Funny thing is that, if you have written the US as the villian in a book it would be too unrealistic, considering how much information about its atrocities is freely avaliable yet it's people still view it as the good guy

If there's one thing I wish some Americans would "never forget", it's this. I'd be livid if such atrocities were committed in the name of a relative murdered in a terrorist attack.

Ive heard that any serious anti-war movement died out after the Dems got on board with the invasions post 9/11. They only really existed to the extent they did bc of the bankroll of the Dems and after they left it behind they were no more.

Weird how they don't post about this stuff in the threads full of people who think Harris is going to change everything and it's everyone's duty to support her and reduce resistance to only "legal" means.

This is totally normal, people have always left game dev. People in game dev have never stayed long at even the game developers, they jump jobs constantly. The people who stay at companies forever are not the norm, those are the names you hear of.

But then I actually installed and tried to play the PC's Scholarship Edition of Bully, a game I remember from almost 20 years ago as being pretty good, and Jesus Christ. It's bad.

First up, while the game nominally supported 4K, actually opting for that resolution broke its display, and I had to go into the game's executable options to fix it. Not a great start. It's not the only area we’ve come a long way from since 2006. Bully's camera movement and player movement aren't tracked at the same speed, so moving the camera around behind the player while also moving the character causes you to run in weird directions, unable to move in a straight line for more than a few seconds at a time. It has text prompts that look like they were lifted from Windows 3.1, and the combat--probably the most important aspect of the game other than Jimmy's ability to cover long distances on foot--is dreary.

And man, I don't remember the 2000s being this overtly mean. The entire vibe of the game is just bleak, from the design of the school itself to the way every single character is just hugely draining to listen to and be around. I get that it's a product of its time, and a specific idea within that time, but boy, from 2024 it's a borderline repulsive place.

It's a 2008 console port dude, it "nominally supports 4K" because it doesn't have a hardcoded higher resolution. It's not like Rockstar coded this UE3 port of a PS2 RenderWare game with the future in mind but so it ran on 360/PC without much effort. (And it was even worse at launch, Rockstar had to patch it up quite a bit.)

And yeah, the characters are mean, it's supposed to be a shitty private school of people who hate you until you win them over.

Universally loved for years with GTASA but Rockstar has been imo shit since then. GTA4 sucked but The Lost amd the Damned and Gay Tony was great, but they were expansions.

I was always of the impression GTA was a "kill someone and keep adding stars" type game and then you and your friends do something more fun afterwards. I still don't get the exalted treatment it gets.

As part of our Back to School week, I had planned on playing through Rockstar's Bully and comparing Jimmy's experience at a strict boarding school with my own.

I didn't attend a boarding school, but after graduating high school I worked in one for a year in the UK (if you know what a gap year is, this was mine). I mostly did odd jobs wherever my skillset could best be employed: some sports coaching here, some history and art tutoring there, alongside some general supervision of kids in the boarding house common spaces after school hours. Which all sounds very adult, but I was actually just 17 years old when I started the job. Now that I type that out, it seems kinda fucked up. Maybe I shouldn't have been allowed to do that, especially since I was sometimes legally responsible for the welfare of senior students who were 19. One Italian kid I remember had a beard.

 

I feel you will be a random adult NPC character in a Bully sequel. One that gets humiliated constantly…
