How do you guys handle games like this with a main story that is 100+ hours long? Do you guys play something else in between and perhaps returning to the longer game days/weeks later?

I enjoy them. It's not a chore to me, unlike some people here. I'm not married, I have no children. I have friends but we only get together and do stuff maybe once or twice a week online, or like once every two months in person. I work a dead end retail job despite drowning in debt inherited from my family. I'm depressed and have no hope for the future, be it my personal future or the overall future of mankind. Life is meaningless and the only constant is suffering. But the fun anime video game makes me happy. I like the stories and themes and characters and gameplay.

So to answer your question I put a few hours in every day either before or after work. On days off without the family doing anything I'll just play it all day. Doesn't take that long. For Metaphor I'm taking the weekend off work so that's like at least 30 hours I'm putting in between those two days. But also there's A LOT coming out over the next month so I will probably play other things too.

Drowning in debt, buys multiple AAA shithole games on release day. 

Dude, please put 30 hours a weekend into doing some job training or study or something and break out of that dead end job. Do something, anything, to make your situation better. Most importantly, get off Resetera and get rid of your "online" friends and do things with actual humans.

The world is a great place full of amazing things to experience. Your life sucks because you are trapped in a misery cycle that's only perpetuated by these losers you hang out with online.

So my motto on tipping is I only tip on waited service and deliveries. I do not tip for over the counter service or takeout.

But I went to Cold Stone ice cream earlier today and got a quick little small ice cream in a cup. When I went to pay by card, the credit card machine asked what do I want to tip and I pressed no tip. The girl working gave me a nasty look like she wanted to kill me in my sleep. 😂

The thing is I've been going to Cold Stone for years since I was atleast in high school and they never used to ask for tip but now expect me to tip nowadays? I aint having that. It's bad enough things have gotten more expensive while portions have stayed the same. 🤷‍♂️

That's the question for which I wanted an answer. It's not a secret that the PS5 generation is building up to be quite precarious for not only players, who have been complaining about a lack of games to play, but also for developers and publishers who seemingly are unable to find success on the platform. If you remember, just a few years ago with the PS4 in full swing it really did seem like Sony was unbeatable and that they were simply destined for success, so what happened? Let's put ourselves in the middle of 2017. After a bit of a rocky start, the generation had finally pulled itself together with PS4 establishing itself as the place to be on if you were a third party publisher. Around that time we had gotten the releases of Nioh, Nier Automata, Yakuza 0, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5 – all games that found massive success on the platform despite most of them being full blown PlayStation exclusives at the time. It's such a different situation compared to the PS5, isn't it? The idea of even just one of those games managing to sell impressively on it seems like a pipe dream, with nothing but Live Service and the biggest AAA games managing to thrive on it.

The answer to that question from the beginning is simple: complacency. Sony didn't accurately assess the rising threat from both PC, stealing a portion of the platform's hardcore audience, and Nintendo, who rose like a phoenix from the Wii U's ashes to be put on track of becoming the best selling console of all time (and slowly but surely convincing developers to support it along the way). What could Sony have done differently then? One obvious answer for the former could be not doing the PC ports, but PC ports are the symptom, not the cause. In their search for only selling the biggest and most expensive games, they found themselves in a situation where the platform had to carry the games, and not the other way around like traditionally consoles operated. Not only do these games cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make, but they also take long enough to make that these studios have to find more ways of generating profit, hence the rise in PC ports and these pointless PS5 remasters, the extended crossgen period and throwing billions at Live Service games as a Hail Mary. With PS4 they at least had a very accessible platform where they could pursue aggressive discount strategies, but the situation was made even worse now with PS5 since the Hardware itself is too expensive to make, in turn limiting the audience of the games, cycling back to making the hardware less desirable, and so on -> death spiral.

For Nintendo, there's not much to say other than they handed them Japan on a platter really. The PS5 is probably the least appealing console you could ever make for the Japanese market, and they also spent a good few years at the start of the PS5 generation pissing off Japanese partners as well. They better pray the Switch 2 is unable to run most third party games, because if it is? Sony's longest held advantage in the console market will be gone and with that their reason to exist. Anyways, it's not over yet. It remains to be seen what impact things like GTA VI could have on sales, at some point the impact the failure of the GAAS move will stop being felt, and hopefully they now realize variety is key to a succesful platform. What do you think?

Looking at the Concord art it suddenly clicked for me why Sony thought they had a winner on their hands.

- Former HALO developers
- Popular genre (not as big as Overwatch used to be but stil a big market)
- Characters that have that modern bright Disney/Marvel-esque look to them
- Generally decent (p)reviews and trailer receptions
- Sony had a decent hit with Hell Divers but that had a much smaller scope, folks caught on with the 'Starship Troopers' inspiration almost from the get go, why wouldn't they link Concord to the hugely popular Guardians of the Galaxy?
- Tie in with the highly anticipated Amazon TV show
- Just $40 not F2P or heavily monetized
- No real competition from Xbox
- The first release for the 'holiday season' beating Call of Duty and a couple of other games to market, people want to play something while they wait, why not Concord?
- New PlayStation first party IP, Sony ponies surely want to check it out
- There was some anti-woke backlash before release but the same was true for Horizon and that only sold more and more
- Copying popular concepts and giving it their own spin is literally what made PlayStation a success in the first place (see Astrobot), why wouldn't Sony Overwatch succeed?

When Arkham Origins was released I thought this might be the future of game development. Have team A create a sequel that's a big jump for the franchise (Arkham City) and then have Team B make another game with all the pieces that have already been created.
Sony has done it here and there with Uncharted Lost Legacy and Miles Morales but it's seemingly just not an attractive option

Spider-Man 2 seems to reuse a lot from the first. Naturally, given it is Manhattan. Arguably, GTA Online has been recycling GTA5 content for 11 years.

The Hill Valley set continues to get use in movies and TV. BTTF wasn’t even its first use. Fidelity can always get better for LA or NYC, but Insomniac touched up areas to keep it looking fresh. Let’s say GTA6 lets you visit LA and it’s the same map from 2013. It all still looks pretty good. 

Lest we forget the most reused assets in gaming: character models from Overwatch. I don’t think many companies wish to acknowledge that.

A lot of people seem to be in denial over it. It seems to be a target for the usual jerks online as well.
The story in the first game was one of the best things in gaming in years, a once a generation event for me (like Halo, Mass Effect).
The way it revealed what had happened in the past and ties to the future were perfect. I tore through the game in 2 days and it had been years since I had done something like that.

Forbidden West...not so much, sadly.

I do know that a lot of younger gamers love Aloy as well. Lego Horizon being a good example of trying to get into that demographic more.
