Imagine writing that comment after saying kids will just ask parents help. Obviously, there is a difference between over explaining and being a obtuse and cheap NES era level game, but come on… It's funny to see this conversation happening right alongside the launch of Astro Bot.
That's a game that introduces new mechanics almost every level and has almost 0 text of any kind. This is a solved problem.
I've got a kid, and it frustrates me when so many cutesy "kid-oriented" games completely miss such an obvious mark: they're clearly made by people who don't have kids and don't interact with kids. Just get to the fucking point: some of your audience can't even read, and those that can read don't care how clever a wordsmith you wasted money on.
Spoiler: (click to show)(click to hide) I'm bummed that Plucky Squire turned out to be one of these since I was actively looking forward to it and the trailers seemed blissfully textbox free.
Yep, kids just press buttons and see what happens that's how I played many games as a kid but I quickly figured out I had to learn English to figure out what I was supposed to do.
But now they want kids to be good corpo slaves who read tutorials, manuals, trigger warnings and government regulations before engaging in any activity.
Which is why sandbox games like Roblox and Fortnite are so popular among the kiddos.
Honestly I bounced off of Another Crab's Treasure because of that shit.
It's a little hard for most kids--but there's no need to softlock kids (or bore-lock adults) out of hard games just because you can't resist the urge to all over what would otherwise be a solid experience.

So, for the last couple of days I had a terrible flu. Still do, but it's way better. Shit was so intense I couldn't sleep at night due to hot flashes, feeling of immense cold and bone/muscle splintering pain. Literally agony Then I slept at day to rebalance my biological needs. Not ideal to put it lightly. While I wait for my Xanax refill, which would definitely enable me to get a full night sleep, I found some hydroxyzine at home. 25mg pills. Took one, two, five, even ten of them and didn't feel anything - no relaxation, lessen anxiety or tiredness leading to sleep. Game is a joy to play. Actually agree with quite a few Era posters that if even this game makes you this cynical, time to find a new hobby and job.
It’s ok to turn off the cynicism and actually just enjoy something in a world otherwise increasingly going to hell. And the constant “corpos are bad!” shit, yes we know. I’ve watched and loved Mr. Robot too, but again, it’s ok to turn off the cynicism once in awhile.
I think there is a point to how the game makes you miss a Sony that doesn't exist anymore, and if you're cyncial, how they're trying to sell you that nostalgia. The kotakus article seems pretty shit though

The fuck would an Astro bot that "inquisitively engages with the history of video games as a medium" look like, and most of all, would that be fun. I love them all. Was a teen when the original game released on the NES and bought it at Toys R Us, grabbing the last piece of paper to take to the front desk to buy it. Normally my eyes struggle with 30fps in open world games but somehow Nintendo is able to do so much more with less. Imagine if they were ever to get caught up in the hardware dept. Plus the fact they can make an open world that is mostly bug free.

Lest we forget the most reused assets in gaming: character models from Overwatch. I don’t think many companies wish to acknowledge that.
remember when nintendo officially announced to the world that they were going to shamelessly reuse assets, wuhu island, that they were making all these claims about how it was going to be like a character itself, a place you always love to see and go back to
