This just makes me sick to my stomach and further infuriated that all my efforts to donate, protest, and spread calls to action to push against the genocide over the last year feels like all for fucking nothing.

We're told to protest and speak our minds! Change the world and have people hear our voice! Only for the president to get mad at college people who did so.

We're told to donate to causes we support, like the world kitchen to help those in need! Except they get attacked and bombed with no punishment toward the attackers because fuck you.

And now a regional war I've been worried sick about for *months* and was told by some IRL friends totally wouldn't impact the election at all and likely wouldnt happen because Bibi would get major pushback, is almost certainly likely to happen now! And nothing is stopping it?!?

And what the fuck do I even do, as a bystander, besides getting increasingly depressed

Really feels like there's no hope on this planet and the pager attack from last week barely getting a peep out of local media here seriously feels like nobody wants to acknowledge we're enabling this to happen. I swear the only semblance of hope now is for a general strike in Israel to happen again, since the US sure wont bother to stop this

there's got to be some kind of emotional maturity thing that causes this kind of thinking

like logically, what do you expect being at a protest to accomplish? especially thousands of miles from the conflict where no local decision-makers can even do anything to affect it? what could you possibly imagine to make you think you would make a difference?

too many capeshit films? did you watch the spider man "you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us" scene one too many times? think that's how the world works, you can just gang up on one singular villainous figure and solve the problem?

why are you even worried sick about it? people die for sad or unjust reasons every day, why aren't you worried sick about the uyghurs being killed in china, or the dissidents silenced in hong kong?

are these the same kinds of people who go out of their minds when they realize they aren't going to qualify for the olympics or the NFL or get hired by disney or google or anything considered prestigious or notable? 99.99% of all people live quiet unmemorable lives and then die and are forgotten, congratulations you're in very good company, enjoy playing zelda until you're done

in the very post you linked there's a beginning and it was literally displaced palestinians trying to put forward a resistance front to get their stolen homes back. the nakba and formation of this ethnostate is quite literally the beginning and the sole reason why lol

it feels mildly frustrating when i see people try to paint it as this complex morally grey situation when you actually go back in history and see it's just... people who are being ethnically cleansed trying to at least fight that fate. it's not that complicated.

The beginning of the timeline was when Hezbollah as an organization was founded, it is not the beginning of anything else. I offered it as a primer to help to understand where we are now, but a 40 year summary is only an intro. What is the real "starting point"? Wherever it was, the people who created it are long dead and we are watching the unfolding tragedy in their endless shadow.

People paint it as a morally grey conflict because at a high level it is. Who exactly is in the right if it is not? Hezbollah are terrorists, Hamas are terrorists, the Iranian and Israeli governments are state supporters of terror.

Perhaps we should refer to it as a morally black conflict instead, devoid of justice and piled high with victims.

It really was the best choice for the night, everyone loved every minute of the movie. Dinner was fantastic both my NP and new connection hit it off almost the moment she walked in the door which immediately took all that initial nervousness away. We ended up getting caught up in some minor "crafting" that wasn't originally planned but my new partner noticed everything we had on the shelf and asked if she could color and if we could help her figure out where to put stickers on her giant water bottle which was also a huge ice breaker.
