That is one thing I don't get for the other forum to be complaining about, at least for other websites.

On YouTube I just see music, animal, guitar and tech video recommendations. Nothing that gets me angry, upset or anything. They have to be purposely be seeking out the videos and/or not realize there is a "I don't want to see this channel" option.

They've explained this infinite times: all of the internet is engaged in a deliberate effort to show you things you hate. This somehow generates more money than showing you things you like. And that's why we need the state to force sites to show you not what you want but what the state thinks you need.

If you have so much contempt for your entire userbase, I honestly question why you continue in your position as General Manager for this forum. Respectfully, most of your responses in this thread are needlessly antagonistic when 90% of the users in this rebooted thread are clearly doing their utmost to tread extremely carefully and respectfully to discuss issues that have been a problem since this forum's inception.

I understand that there are a lot of users who go buck wild and jump to extreme conclusions, but especially with this most recent discussion, everyone was discussing respectfully and like adults, until of course you made this comment. It is a completely unnecessary 0 to 100 escalation.

This post is unworthy of the stated intent of the thread, and outright breaks multiple rules laid out in the OP.

If a regular Member had posted this I'd Report it, but somehow I don't think a Report against the General Manager is going to get very far.


If this thread is going to be useful to anyone, it has to be constructive. We absolutely want to hear about issues with moderation and/or the community, but that has to be conducive to an actual discussion. Coming in here to simply throw fuel on the fire and attack people is not going to fly. Full stop. We want this to work and we will enforce this to make it work.

Do you absolutely want to hear about issues with moderation or not? Because it seems like not.

If a Member is Banned, and does not understand why they were Banned, it seems reasonable for them to be able to ask why and actually be told why without trying to get the ban rescinded.

This is far from the first time that someone has brought up communication issues between Staff and Membership, and it's also far from the first time that complaint has been aggressively dismissed.


This thread is NOT to re-litigate specific bans, or to call out specific members or moderators. We are talking about the community as a whole here, we are not going to get bogged down with "why was X banned" derails. Making this about individuals is not going to help. Any user(s) brigading for or against an individual will receive at least a threadban from this thread.

Using the specifics of a Member's ban as a gotcha to make or dismiss a broader complaint is exactly what this thread isn't meant to be for.

If I made the sort of direct call out against an individual fellow Member or a Mod that you made in your post I'd rightfully expect to be threadbanned for it (or worse).

'Specifics for me but not for thee' is no way to have a discussion, either we all have to perform this weird rhetorical dance or none of us should have to.


This should not be a matter of "Us vs. Them". Staff knows very well the part they have to play in making this a better community. Almost every staff member came from an established segment of this larger community, and we all did so because we want to make the site better than it is. But we can't do that if brigades are bent on treating staff as the enemy or as bad people. We do our best to communicate to members with respect, but members also have a role to play in that.

The members bringing up these issues did so respectfully and thoughtfully.

That level of respectful communication should be reciprocated, rather than replying in a scolding and dismissive manner.
